First Fruits

Well as of about two weeks ago, my first serviceberries were ripe.

There are many common names for this tree/shrub/bush, juneberry, saskatoon, mespilus, sarvis, shad-blossom and shadbush, to name some of them. The flowering of the plant preceeds dogwoods by about 3 weeks and is of such beauty that people often mistake them for flowering dogwoods.
