Tabasco Chile


Small, but extremely hot chile pepper used to make the famous sauce of the same name. The tabasco variety is also quite ornamental, with peppers changing color from white-yellow, to orange, to red as they ripen.
Origin: Native to the Tabasco state of Mexico.

Shishito


A wrinkled sweet pepper usually used when green. The Shishito is very popular in Japan and grow to 3-4". While they are sweet peppers they have a slight hot edge, making them stand out from completely mild bell peppers. Thin walled fruits.

Serrano Huasteco Chili

Green to red, bullet shaped pepper from 1-3" long. This variety is a bit longer than standard Serrano varieties. Spicy flavor, 10,000-23,000 Scoville. Very popular cooking pepper, from Mexico. Easily container grown, or as an annual.

Red Mushroom

Thin skinned pepper, closely related to the ultra-hot habanero. The red mushroom is itself extremely hot, and quite large for a pepper with such high heat, usually growing to 2-3".

Maturity: 75-80 days

Rain Forest Pepper

A block hot pepper, beleived to have originated from the Brazilian rain forest. The plants are vigorous producers of red-ripening, thicker-skinned fruits. Reported to grow as high as six feet. Fruits grow to 2" long by 1-1.5" wide. There is a variegated form, but not all plants seem to show variegation in the leaves. Rain Forest makes for an interesting ornamental (along with being edible) as the fruits dominate the visual and are unlike the average pepper.

Heat: Medium to hot.

Puya

Red, ripening to black, hot pepper growing to about 4" long. The puya is popular in Mexican cooking and its origin dates back to early Central America. The peppers are fairly hot (6 of 10 in heat), with a nice, sharp flavor.

Pimiento, Pimento

A conical (and essentially sweet) pepper with fruits growing up to 4" at the head. The Pimiento is the most popular pepper for canning and also has a great taste fresh. Fruits have a stronger, sweeter and fuller flavor than standard bell peppers.

Pequin Chili

Maturity: around 120 days

Tiny chile, usually only 1" long, but extremely hot, and one of the hottest chiles available. The pequin (meaning little) is a common chile used for ultra-spicy dishes. Plants are semi-annuals and in warmer areas can survive for several years. Closely related to the wild Tepin chile.
Origin: Probably Mexico.

Orange Habanero Pepper

1-1.5" long, orange colored pepper. Extremely hot, the orange habanero is one of the spiciest peppers in the world. It is often used in making hot sauces. Be very careful when handling the seeds or inner parts of this pepper, the oil can be a serious irritant to the skin and eyes.
Origin: Capsicum chinense originates from Brazil and has been domesticated since 2000-1000 B.C. The orange habanero variety is believed to have originated in the Yucutan. It is grown commercially in some areas.

Numex Twilight

Small, very spicy pepper usually grown for its interesting ornamental characteristics. Peppers slowly ripen from green to yellow, to purple, orange, and finally red. Small plants are filled with multi-colored fruits throughout the growing season.

Manzano Pepper

Extremely hot, orange colored pepper looking much like the habanero. This pepper is a rocoto tree pepper relative and is noted for its cold hardiness, as it naturally grows on Andean mountain slopes, this pepper will survive several degrees below freezing. Plants grow to 2-6ft, can live for many years.

Kung Pao

A long, red, thin-skinned pepper with a mildly hot flavor. Excellent for use in Asian cooking. Plants bear heavily. Fruits can grow to 6-9 and are very slender. A recent hybrid introduction.

Japanese Chili

Slender, red chile with a mildly hot flavor. Similar to Cayenne, and Thai Dragon peppers.

Jalapeno

Medium sized green pepper, the most popular in the United States for eating and cooking. Mild flavor, 2000-5000 Schoville. Eaten raw or cooked, the jalapeno is an important ingredient in numerous dishes. When dried, it is known as chipotle. Easily container grown, or as an annual.

Hot Banana, Yellow Hungarian Wax

Medium sized, 4-6" long pepper, 1-2" wide, used when its skin is a waxy yellow color. Flavor is mildly spicy.

Hot Apple

a.k.a Almapaprika. a 2", circular pepper somewhat resembling an apple. Originally from Hungary, the Hot Apple pepper has a nice flavor and thick, crunchy flesh. Medium-hot.

Fresno Chili

Similar in size and shape to Jalapeno. Ripens to a red color, spicier than the Jalapeno.

de Arbol Pepper

Slender red chili pepper to 3-6" long. Spicy, with similarities to the Thai Dragon pepper.

Capsicum annuumik

Cherry Pepper - Cherry shaped pepper to 1-2". Mildly hot flavor, excellent for cooking and pickling. Fruits are plump and have a faint spicy flavor.

Cayenne, Golden - A bright yellow-gold version of the ever-popular Cayenne. Fruits grow to 6" and ripen to a beautiful golden yellow. Flavor is like the regular Cayenne, intense and hot. 70-75 days.

Cascabel - A very unique chile from Mexico, the cascabel has a nutty, smoked flavor, with a heat level of 4. A great chile for a wide assortment of dishes it is often used dried. Ripens to a very dark red color. When dried the fruits sound like a rattle when the seeds are still contained inside.

Caribbean Habanero Pepper - Though its hard to be sure, this may be the hottest pepper in the world, eclipsing even the lofty spiciness of the Orange Habanero. Rates upwards of 400,000 on the Scoville scale. Small bush to 1-3ft.

Aji Limo - A very beautiful and uncommon chili pepper from the northern coast of Peru, the Aji Limo is from the same species as the famous Habanero. Flavor is great, and very hot. Fruits usually grow to about 3x1.5".

Aji Crystal - A great Aji-type, originally from Chile. Produces 1.5x3.5" long fruits that ripen from pale green to pale yellow and then finally to a bright red. The fruits have a waxy skin and very hot citrusy flavor. Perfect for salsas! Moderate hot heat. 36". 90 days.

The smallest tomato plant in the world! Plants grow to only 4-7 inches but bear 1-3" good flavored tomatoes in heavy quantites. This variety is wonderful as a novelty (and good eating too!) or to grow your own tomatoes in tiny 4" pots in the house or on the window sill.

Missouri Love Apple

A rare variety producing large, pink tinted beefsteak-like tomatoes. Dates back to the Civil War era, from Missouri. Fruits are rich in juice and have a full flavor. Potato leaved. 80 days.

Longkeeper

Orange-red tomato known for its long lasting fruits which when picked, can last 12 weeks or longer off the vine without rotting or losing flavor. Determinate plant, short vined, fruits 3-6 oz.

A nice orange skinned and orange pulped beefsteak style tomato. These pretty tomatoes grow to a pound and have a rich flavor. Sliced, they look like sunshine on your sandwich! Fruits have few seeds. Indeterminate. 85 days.

Juliet

Extremely prolific grape-type tomato. Fruits grow to 1-2", with a nice flavor and are quite resistant to cracking. They are born in clusters of 10-12, and a single plant will produce hundreds of fruits in a season. 60 days.

Jubilee

Large, almost beefsteak-style orange skinned tomato. The fruits are extremely colorful, with a vibrant orange skin and low-acid tomato flavor. 72-75 days.

Jolly

Medium sized, 1.5", pink colored tomato. The Jolly is a recent introduction and produces excellent quality, meaty, pink tomatoes in great abundance. Ripens in a bout 70-75 days.

Jaunne Flamme

A French heirloom bearing flavorful orange, salad tomatoes. The 2-3 oz fruits are born in sizable clusters. They are pretty on the vine, ripening from green to yellow and finally to an orange-red. The round fruits are juicy and sweet, and great for any use. 70 days.

Japanese Black Trifele

A fairly rare tomato variety known for its superior quality fruits which ripen to a deep red-black color and pear shape. Originally from Russia, this variety bears medium-sized fruits with a rich flavor. Potato leaved plants. 80 days.

Ivory Pear

Rare, ivory colored pear-shaped tomato. Plants bear heavy crops of these beautiful little translucent-ivory tomatoes. Flavor is sweet, similar to a cherry or pear tomato.

Isis Candy

One of the best cherry-type tomatoes around! A single Isis Candy we grew this past season produced well over 5000 fruits. Fruits ripen to a beautiful red-orange-gold striped and blushed color. Flavor is sweet, excellent and perfect for fresh eating and in salads. 67 days.

Honey Grape

A great variety of the grape tomato with bright, golden-orange fruits that are bite sized and very sweet! Plnats produce heavily. Fruits are tasty and are an eye-catching alternative to the usual grape and cherry tomatoes.

Health Kick

Roma shaped tomato notable for its 50% higher lycopene content as compared with most other tomatoes. Fruits grow to 4-6oz. Plants are highly disease resistant.

Green Zebra

Very good flavored salad type tomato. Fruits are medium sized, with a balanced sweet-acidic flavor. Fruits ripen to a green color, with subtle yellow spots or stripes making for an attractive addition to any dish. This tomato is also very popular for salsas.

Hawaiian Pineapple

Giant orange-yellow beefsteak type tomato. Fruits may weigh up to 2 lbs! Flavor is sweet and fruity with some hints of pineapple.

Green Grape

A fun color in a great tasting grape tomato! The Green Grape ripens to a green (tinged with yellow) color. The cherry tomato fruits grow about 3/4-1" across with sweet pulp on productive plants.

Great White

Cherry tomato variety with the size and shape of a large grape. Sweet flavor, fruits last quite a while off the vine. Plants produce well, similar to cherry tomato plants.

Granny Smith

A newer, and very unique tomato. The Granny Smith is one of the only medium/large tomatoes to retain a green color when it ripens. Has a great, sweet tomato flavor, but green skin and green pulp. Great for eating like any other tomato, but also perfect for dishes such as salsa verde!

Golden Pineapple

A monstrous tomato in size and taste! The Golden Pineapple produces fruits that weigh well over a pound and have an amazingly sweet flavor that sets this variety apart from others.
